Shedrack Salami is an AMVCA award-winning Nigerian documentary film director, cinematographer and visual artist whose work centers on human resilience, African identity and overlooked social narratives. His rise in filmmaking began in 2021, following impactful years of using body art to address issues such as gender-based violence, drug abuse and political injustice.
He is the director of Beyond Olympic Glory, a breakout documentary that has achieved remarkable global success. The film has screened across 4 continents and 15 countries, earning more than 40 international festival selections, over 20 awards and multiple nominations. Its recognitions include Best Documentary at the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards, marking Shedrack’s biggest career milestone to date, as well as wins at the BON Awards, RIFFA Awards and Black Star International Film Festival. The film also received the Grand Cheese Prize for Best Film/Documentary at The Annual Film Mischief, a Special Award at the Eastern Europe Film Festival and a nomination at the Jazair Awards. Beyond Olympic Glory has continued to gain widespread international attention for its powerful narrative, emotional depth and cinematic style.
In 2024, the film was developed under the StoryMi Academy Documentary Film Fellowship, supported by the French Embassy in Nigeria, and in 2025 Shedrack was selected for the prestigious Sunny Academy residency in France to further expand the project for a global audience.
His earlier short film, Semblance Realism (2023), was a finalist at the SmallRig Awards, received an Honourable Mention at the Panorama International Film Festival and screened at more than 10 international festivals. Shedrack’s filmography also includes the LGBTQ+ documentary series Uncommon Beauty Seasons 1 & 2 and the cultural documentary Calling the Spirits.
Through his production company, Xtrovarts Visual Studios, Shedrack has worked on multinational documentary and commercial projects for organisations and brands including Coca-Cola, McKinsey & Company, Hispasat, Axess Networks, Samsung Mobile, TECNO Mobile, Nigerian Breweries and the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
Beyond filmmaking, Shedrack continues to support community development through mentorship at the Nbari Nbajo Arts and Cultural Institute in Bariga, where he trains emerging filmmakers and storytellers.
