Shedrack Salami is an AMVCA Award-winning Nigerian documentary filmmaker, cinematographer and visual artist whose work explores the intersection of humanity, identity, resilience and social impact. His work is driven by a commitment to telling authentic African stories that resonate with audiences around the world. His filmmaking journey began in 2021, following years of using body art to address issues such as gender-based violence, drug abuse and political injustice.

In 2026, Shedrack was selected for the prestigious American Film Showcase (AFS) Sports Documentary Residency at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles, where he was one of only 12 filmmakers selected globally to develop his work under a programme sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. That same year, he received intercontinental recognition at the AIPS Sport Media Awards as one of Africa’s Top 10 sports storytellers and won Best Documentary Director at the inaugural Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) Awards. He is also a 2025 Sunny Academy Residency Fellow in La Rochelle, France and a 2024 StoryMi Academy Documentary Film Fellow, supported by the French Embassy in Nigeria.

Shedrack is the director of Beyond Olympic Glory, a breakthrough documentary that has screened across 4 continents and in more than 20 countries, earning over 40 international film festival selections, more than 20 awards and multiple nominations. The film won Best Documentary at the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), alongside honours from the BON Awards, RIFFA Awards, Eastern Europe Film Festival and Jackson Doc Fest. It has received widespread international recognition for its powerful storytelling and cinematic approach.

His earlier short film, Semblance Realism (2023), screened at multiple international film festivals and received recognition at the Inaugural SmallRig Awards and Panorama International Film Festival. His filmography also includes the documentary series Uncommon Beauty (Seasons 1 and 2) and the cultural documentary Calling the Spirits.

Through his production company, Xtrovarts Visual Studios, Shedrack has led and contributed to documentary and commercial productions for organisations and brands including Coca-Cola, British International Investment (BII), BBC StoryWorks, UK Aid, Manufacturing Africa, McKinsey & Company, Hispasat, Samsung Mobile, TECNO Mobile, Nigerian Breweries and the Lagos State Government.

Beyond filmmaking, Shedrack is passionate about mentoring emerging creatives and creating opportunities for the next generation of African storytellers. Through his work, he champions the power of art and documentary film to inspire empathy, challenge perspectives and spark meaningful conversations across cultures.
